A bit about

DJ Loco Lopez…

Enrique “DJ Loco Lopez” is a professional DJ based in Albany, New York’s Capital Region, known for his expertise in Latin music. Here’s a detailed look at his career:

  • Stage Name Origin: The stage name “DJ Loco Lopez” was spontaneously coined by his DJ partner and best friend during a live performance at a local dance club in Utica at the time called “Club 1105” in 1992.  Initially, Lopez went by the name “DJ Keen” but eventually adopted “Loco Lopez” after his friend introduced him on stage with this name initially meant as a joke.  But the name stuck and is still as strong decades later.  In fact, after decades of internet presence on websites and social media, Google reveals Enrique and all his media in its top search page for DJ Loco Lopez

  • Music Style: DJ Loco Lopez began his DJ career as a Hip-Hop and Dance music DJ.  He was learning mixing techniques and blending beats from the very beginning.  Many years into his career, he developed a love for Lating Tropical music.  Since then he has specialized in Latin music, particularly in the styles of Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata, known as Tropical music as well as other ballroom and common social dances. These styles are deeply connected to Caribbean and Hispanic cultures. He is not limited to Latin Tropical music and has a deep and vast knowledge of other music genres. His music selection varies according to the event, ranging from popular songs for older crowds at weddings to a dynamic mix of genres including Hip Hop, R&B, Top 40, Dance/House/EDM, Old School, and Reggaeton at clubs.

  • Career and Business: For more than three decades, he has been a prominent figure in the DJ scene, spinning music in banquet venues, clubs, radio and at private parties. He owns Divine Productions Limited in New York, a single-op DJ company formed in the mid-1980s by his best friend. After his friend moved away in the early 1990s, Lopez continued to run the company.  Divine Productions began adding and offering wedding services in the early 90’s while widening appeal for services.  Enrique took great care to ensure that the services were professional and worthy of acknowledgement.  Enrique has performed in hundreds of weddings throughout the last 4 decades.

  • Digital Presence and Adaptation: DJ Loco Lopez adapted to the digital landscape, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, by using streaming platforms like Twitch, Mixcloud, Facebook, and YouTube. This expansion allowed him to reach a global audience. He usually DJs three days a week and promotes local events to increase his visibility.

  • Online Shows: Beyond DJing, Lopez hosts an online variety show called “Red Zone Live” featuring various segments and interactive trivia. This show represents a departure from his primary DJ role and helps him engage with a broader audience.

  • Reputation and Impact: With a humble attitude, Lopez reflects on his decades in the industry, acknowledging his established reputation and success in the local scene. He takes pride in his career, having performed for large crowds and having a significant online presence.

  • Accomplishments: Among his career highlights, he is most proud of creating and producing Latino Voice Magazine to help support marketing for the DJ business.  But Latino Voice Magazine took off and had a life of its own.  Latino Voice Magazine was an accomplished business that had the privilege of interviewing celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, WWE Wrestling Legends such as Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio, as well as actors Jimmy Smitts and Selma Hayek.

    • DJing for crowds of up to 8,000 people and achieving a global reach through his online platforms. He expresses contentment with his current level of support and the enjoyable atmosphere of his work.

    • At the behest of his best friend and mentor Ray Torres, being the youngest DJ on the roster at “Rays Place”, a bar/club in Amsterdam that he was not even old enough to enter as a guest at age 15.  His mother had to sit with owner and operator Ray Greco to discuss the rules to allow (“the kid” as he was known to adults at the time) to play at the establishment.  “The Kid” became a popular sought-after attraction to the bar/club.
    • DJing in the largest club in Albany “Nick’s Sneaky Petes” for the Rum Jungle promotion.  This also included a live radio show performance on Jamz 96.3 with hype-man Rob De-Latino.  The radio show was a mix of Hip-Hop and Reggeaton (which at the time was just beginning its reach into the mainstream markets) and Enrique was a pioneer on the forefront of mixing the genres.
    • Becoming proficient at marketing, building a music library, investing in professional gear, and establishing a business in his teenage years long before the advent of the internet.  This was incredibly difficult to achieve during the days before technology and for a young Hispanic of humble beginnings, in a fairly unknown upstate small town, it was nothing short of a spectacular achievement.

DJ Loco Lopez’s career is a testament to his passion for music and his ability to adapt and thrive in the evolving world of DJing. His dedication to his craft and his business acumen have made him a notable figure in the DJ community, particularly in the Latin music scene.
